Claudia Waterloo, a successful financial advisor, shared a wonderful story with me regarding her mother’s passing and how the family distributed her earthly possessions amongst themselves in a very innovative way. She credits her brothers with coming up with the process.
A process every advisor should note and inform their clients about in the event of a loved one’s death.
While Claudia took care of the legal and financial matters, one brother snapped pictures of everything in her mother’s place, including the insides of cabinets.
Another brother then numbered and captioned all 200+ photos, loaded them to a shared drive, and built a spreadsheet. Then they had a Zoom giveaway of her possessions with all 11 family members across five states. They went in order, making their selections in turn. Over four hours and 17 rounds, hundreds of items were chosen. As Claudia stated, “it was actually great fun and a marvelous use of technology!”
Death of a loved one is always difficult and heartbreaking. Often the distribution of the departed’s possessions brings additional stress and strain on families and their relationships.
The innovative process that Claudia’s family used was “great fun.” Something that is sorely needed in times of grief.
My hope is that you will save this message and make it available to your clients, friends, and family. It will be a blessing to them and for them.
