What Do You Do?

I recently received this question from a coaching client :
“What’s the best way for each team member to describe their title and role when someone asks what they do and who they work for? Ideally, we’re looking for something concise yet informative.”

The answer below is a wonderful opportunity to position yourself—and your team or firm—distinctly in the marketplace:

“I enjoy what I do at [insert company or team] as a [insert your role, e.g., financial advisor, client support person, relationship manager, branch manager, etc.] because our clients say we/I help them [insert your value promise, e.g., get their financial house in order, protect their earned and unearned income, safeguard their future, or plan the retirement they rightly deserve].”

Positioning your role as…

  1. one you enjoy,
  2. clearly stating what it is, and
  3. highlighting how clients feel about your work on their behalf
immediately distinguishes you from others—and subliminally communicates that your work is “remark-worthy.”

Feel welcome to forward or post this to help your peers gain insight—and more business.

Oh, and what do I do? I enjoy what I do because my clients say my team and I help them acquire and retain more business.

What about you—what do you do?
