People today are jaded, divided, cynical, and just plain sick and tired of all the memes and unrelated, overhyped promotion.
What people want is authenticity and emotional connection.
What exactly does this mean when it comes to messaging and posting?
It means that people want to better understand not only who you are, but also whether you can actually relate to them and their own situations.
They want to feel the message is specifically created for them.
For example, you could address:
- A difficulty encountered in preparing for retirement, buying a home, setting up a trust, filing taxes, choosing a college, and so on. Then, explain how that issue can be solved.
- Or perhaps describe how important it was, in the case of a tragedy or natural disaster, for those who were affected to be prepared—and what they did.
Telling relatable stories or referencing relatable issues—and giving actionable insights, whether in writing or via two-minute videos—helps people relate to you and engage with you.
Just be mindful that people have very short attention spans, so be brief, be brilliant, be bold, and be gone!
Feel welcome to forward this to your peers or post it on your LinkedIn profile or blog.
