Several years ago, I asked an individual I was coaching a couple of simple questions.
Given the state of many careers right now and the number of people I hear from who feel overwhelmed or unhappy in their current roles, the questions are just as relevant today.
I asked, “Where do you make the greatest impact in your business? What activities, if done consistently, would create the biggest results for you and your team?”
He answered almost immediately: “Doing demonstrations and recruiting more salespeople.”
Then I asked him, “Are you spending 80% of your time doing those things?”
His answer was, “No.”
I followed with another question and a statement: “Why? And you’re not allowed to say you have more important things to do.”
That moment hit him hard. It forced him to confront a simple truth: He already knew what created success but wasn’t consistently doing it. Once he focused on what brought the biggest results, his business grew more than 10X.
I mention this because many of us get caught up in being busy when we should be laser-focused on being productive—and investing in services like AI and people to handle the rest.
So, for you:
Where do you make the greatest impact in your business?
What activities, if done consistently, would create the biggest results for you and your team?
Are you spending 80% of your time doing those things?
If not, why not?
And you’re not allowed to say you have more important things to do.
